What is Schedule 40 Pipe?
When you see “Sch40” on a pipe, it means the pipe can handle 40 kg of pressure, and has a standard thickness of 4 millimeters.

Sch 40 pipes are good for applications with low water pressure because they have thinner walls. It’s important to choose the right size of schedule 40 pipes for your needs, as their strength depends on their size.

What does NPS (Nominal Pipe Size) stand for?
The NPS size represents the pipe’s approximate inside diameter; if the schedule number on a set size is changed, the inside diameter (ID) but not the outside diameter (OD) is affected (OD). Nominal Pipe Sizing was developed by the American Standard Association to replace the previously employed Iron Pipe Sizing. For high or low pressures and temperature pipes, this North American standard is employed.
