Corten and Weathering Steel Products Supplier in India
Lakshya Steel supplies weathering steel plates, sheets, pipes and tubes in Corten, ASTM, EN and IRSM grades for architectural, structural and industrial projects.Corten steel is a weathering steel developed for applications where the material will be exposed to outdoor conditions. Under suitable exposure, its surface forms a rust-like patina that can help slow further atmospheric corrosion while giving the steel its distinctive appearance. The performance of this protective layer depends on the grade, surrounding environment, drainage and wet-dry exposure cycle.
Lakshya Steel supplies Corten and weathering steel products for construction, infrastructure, fabrication, railway and architectural requirements. The range includes Corten A and Corten B plates and sheets, IRSM 41-97 plates, ASTM A242 and ASTM A588 weathering steel, pipes, tubes and ASTM A423 Grade 1 tubes.
Corten A is commonly considered for thinner architectural and fabricated products, while Corten B is used for heavier structural plate applications. Other weathering steel grades should be selected according to the design standard, section thickness, structural requirement and exposure conditions. The product should not be selected only for its appearance, especially where the surface may remain continuously wet or exposed to unsuitable atmospheric conditions.

How to Select the Right Product Form
- Use pipe and tube pages when the enquiry is controlled by OD or NPS, wall thickness, schedule, construction method and pressure or heat-transfer service.
- Use plate and sheet pages when thickness, width, length, finish, forming and fabrication are the main buying variables.
- Use bar pages when diameter or section, condition, tolerance, machining and heat treatment control the requirement.
- Use flange and fitting pages when the design is controlled by size, pressure class, facing, schedule, joint type and piping code.
- Use component pages for drawing-based parts with defined tolerances, inspection and end-use information.
Industries We Serve
- Architecture and facades: Sheets and plates for exposed cladding, screens and features where drainage and wet-dry cycling are designed.
- Bridges and infrastructure: A588, A242 or EN weathering plate for approved structural designs and exposure categories.
- Railways: IRSM 41-97 plate for wagons and railway applications under the applicable specification.
- Art and landscaping: Weathering sheet and plate for sculptures and outdoor elements with runoff and staining controls.
- Heat exchangers and industrial equipment: ASTM A423 Grade 1 tubes where the tube standard and service conditions are specified.
- Transport and containers: Weathering grades for selected fabricated bodies and outdoor structures after design review.
Testing and Documentation
Testing and documentation should be agreed before quotation. Depending on the product standard and project, the requirement may include a mill test certificate, heat-number traceability, chemical and mechanical test results, dimensional inspection, positive material identification, non-destructive examination, pressure testing, impact testing, surface or coating records and third-party inspection. Lakshya Steel should publish only the services that are confirmed for the selected product and supply route.

Frequently Asked Questions About Corten Steel Products
1. Is Corten steel the same as weathering steel?
Weathering steel is the generic family. COR-TEN is a registered trademark associated with specific licensed grades. Supplier pages should use the trademark accurately and should not describe every ASTM or EN weathering grade as identical to branded COR-TEN without checking the mill certificate and equivalent specification.
2. How does weathering steel develop its protective patina?
The surface changes through repeated wet and dry exposure, allowing a dense oxide layer to develop under suitable conditions. Continuously wet, sheltered, buried, marine-salt or heavily polluted environments may not produce a stable patina. Drainage, orientation, joints and runoff staining need design attention.
3. Which weathering steel grade should I choose?
Choose by the governing structural or product standard, required yield strength, thickness, impact test, product form and environment. ASTM A242 and A588 serve structural applications, EN 10025-5 covers European weathering grades, IRSM 41-97 serves defined railway use and ASTM A423 covers tube products.
4. Can weathering steel be welded and formed?
Weathering grades can generally be fabricated using grade-specific procedures. Filler metal, heat input, joint design, preheat and matching weathering performance depend on thickness and standard. The fabricator should use the mill data sheet and approved welding procedure rather than a generic Corten procedure.
5. What should be included in a weathering steel enquiry?
State the exact grade and standard, plate or tube form, thickness or wall, dimensions, quantity, impact requirement, surface condition, fabrication need and delivery destination. Also describe the end use and exposure so the supplier can flag whether uncoated weathering steel is appropriate.
