Monel K500 is a nickel-copper alloy that may be age-hardened and combines Alloy 400’s corrosion resistance with high strength corrosion fatigue and erosion resistance. MONEL K500 is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-copper alloy with aluminium and titanium additives. When compared to 400, MONEL K500 preserves the outstanding corrosion resistance of 400 while also having increased strength and hardness following precipitation hardening. When compared to Alloy 400, K500 has about three (3) times the yield strength and double the tensile strength. Cold working MONEL K500 before precipitation hardening will strengthen it more more. Monel alloys come in a variety of forms, starting with Monel 400, which includes at least 63 percent nickel, between 29 and 34 percent copper, between 2 and 2.5 percent iron, and between 1.5 and 2 percent manganese. Monel 405 has no more than 0.5 percent silicon, while Monel K-500 contains between 2.3 and 3.15 percent aluminium and 0.35 to 0.85 percent titanium. Monel 400 includes the same amount of nickel and copper as a nickel ore found naturally in Ontario, Canada. It is extremely strong and can only be toughened by cold working.
