Alloy 420 Hex Bars have a higher carbon content than Alloy 410 Hex Bars, which are actually designed to optimize toughness and hardness characteristics. Our 420 grade hexagonal bars provide full corrosion resistance only in the hardened condition where they have good ductility in the annealed condition but can be hardened up to 50 RHC. Tempering temperatures above 700 degrees F are not usually recommended, and these Grade 420 hexagonal bars must be preheated prior to welding and annealed after welding. The maximum corrosion resistance of our Type 420 Hex Bars is achieved in a fully cured or fully cured and stress relieved condition. 

After heat treatment, these 420 stainless steel hexagonal bars exhibit high mechanical properties, they are magnetic under both hardening and annealing conditions. Typical applications for our UNS S42000 Stainless Steel Hex Rods include surgical and dental tools, cutlery, scissors, tapes and straight edges. These Din 1.4021 Stainless Steel Hex Bars are hardenable straight chrome stainless steels that combine the excellent wear resistance of high carbon alloys with the excellent corrosion resistance of chrome stainless steels.
