SS 317L Hex Bars is a version of SS 316 with higher chromium, nickel and molybdenum content, mainly designed to increase strength and corrosion resistance. It is important to remember that hydrochloric acid in any concentration above 5% easily erodes austenitic SS 317L hexagonal bars. A binder or austenitic low carbon solder with a molybdenum content higher than 317L hexagonal bars or a nickel based binder with sufficient chromium and molybdenum to exceed corrosion resistance. 300 series alloys and has the highest tensile and creep strength at elevated temperatures. 317L stainless steel hexagonal bars always provide better resistance to pitting / crevice corrosion than 304L stainless steel, where this is due to the addition of 2-3% molybdenum.
