317L is a molybdenum bearing, low carbon “L” austenitic stainless steel which provides better corrosion resistance compared to 304L and 316L stainless steels. Low carbon content ensures resistance to allergies during welding and other thermal processes. 317L is non-magnetic in the annealed condition, but can become slightly magnetic with welding. 317L channels has excellent corrosion resistance to a wide range of chemicals, especially in acid chloride environments such as those found in pulp and paper mills. Increased levels of chromium, nickel and molybdenum compared to 317L stainless steel channels improve resistance to pitting corrosion and general corrosion.
