316 / 316Ti stainless steel channel is an austenitic stainless steel product that has found its use in a variety of industrial applications. These products are designed with the second most used stainless steel alloy, which offers excellent formability and weldability. In addition to the combine’s molybdenum content, which increases the excellent resistance to general and pitting corrosion in hostile environments. Bars/angles and channels exhibit exceptional formability and mechanical properties. As a result, they are highly resistant to sensitization and provide both short-term and long-term creep resistance. These bars/angles and channels have excellent ductility and ductility so that their austenitic structure enables deep drawing without intermediate annealing.

316Ti (UNS S31635) represents a titanium-enhanced variant of 316, an austenitic stainless steel containing molybdenum. The 316 series of alloys exhibit superior resistance to general corrosion, as well as pitting and crevice corrosion, surpassing the conventional chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steels like 304. Moreover, they offer increased strength against creep, stress-rupture, and tension at elevated temperatures.

However, it is worth noting that high carbon Alloy 316 stainless steel can be vulnerable to sensitization. Sensitization refers to the formation of chromium carbides along the grain boundaries within a temperature range of approximately 900 to 1500°F (425 to 815°C), leading to intergranular corrosion. To counteract this, Alloy 316Ti incorporates titanium to stabilize the structure and prevent the precipitation of chromium carbides that cause sensitization.

This stabilization process involves an intermediate temperature heat treatment, during which titanium interacts with carbon to form titanium carbides. By limiting the formation of chromium carbides, the susceptibility to sensitization is significantly reduced. Consequently, the alloy can withstand prolonged exposure to high temperatures while maintaining its corrosion resistance.

316Ti offers corrosion resistance equivalent to that of the low carbon version, 316L, while effectively mitigating the risk of sensitization.

What is 316Ti stainless steel?

316Ti (UNS S31635) serves as a titanium-stabilized iteration of 316, an austenitic stainless steel with molybdenum content. In comparison to traditional chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steels like 304, the 316 alloys exhibit enhanced resistance against general corrosion as well as pitting and crevice corrosion.

What is the difference between 316 and 316Ti?

The addition of titanium (Ti) to 316 stainless steel gives rise to 316Ti, a variant that effectively mitigates the potential loss of corrosion resistance in the heat-affected zone. Another approach to address this concern involves lowering the carbon (C) content, resulting in the creation of grade 316L as an alternative solution.

What is the difference between ss316ti and ss304?

304 and 316 stainless steels have distinct compositions. In comparison, 304 comprises 18% chromium and 8% nickel, whereas 316 consists of 16% chromium, 10% nickel, and an additional 2% molybdenum. The inclusion of molybdenum in 316 aids in enhancing its resistance to corrosion caused by chlorides, such as those found in seawater and de-icing salts.

What is 316Ti casting grade?

Within the realm of stainless steel grades 316 stands as an austenitic grade that holds significant commercial value, just slightly trailing behind 304. Distinguishing itself, 316 stainless steel incorporates molybdenum, which imparts enhanced resistance against corrosion. Notably, this attribute becomes particularly evident when countering pitting and crevice corrosion within chloride environments.

What is the difference between 316L and 316 Ti?

The primary diffrence between 316L and 316Ti stainless steel lies in their composition. 316L is characterized by its low carbon content, whereas 316Ti incorporates the element of titanium. Titanium, a scarce metal renowned across various industries, is valued for its strength and exceptional resistance to corrosion.
