Inconel alloys are oxidation-corrosion-resistant materials that are ideally suited for use in high-pressure and high-heat situations. Inconel generates a thick, persistent, passivating oxide layer when heated, which protects the surface from further assault. Inconel has a wide temperature range of strength, making it ideal for high-temperature applications where aluminium and steel would creep due to thermally induced crystal voids. Depending on the alloy, Inconel’s high temperature strength is achieved by solid solution strengthening or precipitation hardening.
