What are Duplex Stainless Steel Plates or Sheets?

Duplex stainless steel plates and duplex steel sheets are made with high chromium (18%-28%) and moderate nickel (1.5%-8%) content. Duplex steel plates offer excellent corrosion resistance, especially against acetic, phosphoric, and nitric acids, as well as other harsh environments.

These duplex stainless steel sheets perform well in both local and general corrosive conditions, maintaining their shape and strength at high temperatures. They are easy to machine, fabricate, and weld using standard methods like TIG, MIG, and resistance welding. Available in both magnetic and non-magnetic forms, duplex stainless plates are made through hot and cold working processes and treated to enhance their mechanical properties.

The dual-phase nature of duplex stainless steel plates makes them strong, corrosion-resistant, and tough, making them ideal for industries like chemical processing and oil and gas exploration.

Duplex Steel Plates & Sheets Manufacturing Process

Reheating Furnace: The first step involves heating the steel stock in reheating furnaces to achieve the right temperature for rolling.

Scale Breaker: Next, the steel slab passes through a scale breaker, where vertical rolls loosen the furnace scale. High-pressure water jets then remove the scale.

Finish Rolling: The slab undergoes finish rolling, which shapes it into the desired plate form.

Cooling: The plate is rapidly cooled, a process known as quenching, to harden it and improve its properties.

Skin Pass Mill: This stage imparts a high-gloss finish and fine-tunes the mechanical properties, such as strength and flexibility.

Marking & Packing: Finally, the plates are marked and packed carefully. This not only enhances the appearance but also protects the plates from damage and ensures proper handling.
