Introduction to 431 Stainless Steel Pipes & Tubes

Stainless Steel 431 Tubes, also referred to as AISI 431 or DIN EN 1.4057, belong to the category of nickel-containing martensitic stainless steels known for their excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. This grade offers superior performance compared to straight chromium stainless steels, particularly in terms of impact strength and resistance to corrosion. SS 431 is characterized by its high polishability and suitability for applications up to 500 degrees Celsius. It is widely used for producing corrosion-resistant components requiring high tensile strength and good machinability. The material exhibits strong resistance to oxidizing acids like nitric acid, making it suitable for challenging environments.

Typically supplied in a hardened and tempered condition (T), SS 431 features a tensile strength range of 850 to 1000 MPa and offers good corrosion resistance in general atmospheric conditions. It also shows resistance to mild marine and industrial atmospheres, various organic materials, and petroleum products. Its through-hardenability allows it to achieve high levels of hardness (up to Rc44) depending on carbon content and section size.
