Inconel vs Hastelloy

What exactly is Inconel?

Inconel is an oxidation-corrosion-resistant material that is well suited for high-temperature and high-pressure applications. When Inconel alloy is heated, it generates a thick, stable oxide layer that shields the surface from further attack. Inconel’s strength spans a wide temperature range. Depending on the alloy, it achieves high temperature strength through solid solution strengthening or precipitation hardening. Inconel is a metal that is commonly used in high-temperature applications.

What exactly is Hastelloy?

Hastelloy is a nickel-molybdenum alloy with a high melting point. It comes in a variety of grades, with many of them being nickel chromium molybdenum alloys. Although each Hastelloy grade has been designed for a specific application, they are all highly corrosion resistant. Hastelloy becomes stronger and tougher at high temperatures with the addition of, making it ideal for welding applications. It’s simple to shape and construct. Because of their ductility, they can be forged and cold worked. Hastelloy has exceptional resistance to severely oxidizing and reducing chemicals, making it an excellent choice for high-temperature applications. It’s often used for pipes and valves in the chemical and petrochemical industries. It’s a great material for heat exchangers and pressure vessels, and it’s also used in nuclear and chemical reactors.
